Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)
Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) provides professional consultation to employees and their families to provide immediate support, education, and access to resources for a wide range of employee needs. EAPs are usually offered in conjunction with an overall group plan because they are not an insurance product but are provided by firms that work cooperatively with insurers. The purpose of EAPs are to provide support and help for employees experiencing personal problems that may interfere with their work performance. This includes such things as:
- Substance abuse (drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc.)
- Stress
- Major life events
- Needs of family
- Medical care
- Legal consultation (family law, bankruptcy, divorce)
- Financial counseling
- Work relationship issues
EAPs can help improve production by decreasing medical costs, reducing absenteeism, and reducing turnover.
